External Diploma Program
The External Diploma Program (EDP) emphasizes what you have learned from life. You can now get credit toward your high school diploma through the National External Diploma Program. This is a self-paced alternative program offering one-to-one appointments with a trained staff member. The sessions are scheduled once a week (day or evening) at a convenient time at the Hickory Ridge Building. If you are over 18 years of age, lack a high school diploma, and have a job skill, you are eligible to participate. A Maryland high school diploma is awarded after clients demonstrate 65 specific life skills in problem solving, critical thinking, speaking, writing, and computation. Information sessions are held periodically.

Annual Diploma Recognition Ceremony
Each year the Office of Basic Skills and Foreign-Born Programs has a Diploma Recognition Ceremony to honor those students who have earned their Maryland high school diploma through the General Educational Development (GED) Program or the External Diploma Program (EDP). County and college officials attend to offer their greetings and congratulations.
