Are you a recent high school graduate?

Many students worldwide decide to study in the English Language Institute (ELI) directly out of high school. Their goal: to learn English and prepare for an undergraduate/degree program in the United States.  After studying in the ELI, many students transfer to Howard Community College's 2-year Associate program, then transfer to a 4-year university for a Bachelors degree. They also use their time in the ELI to learn more about American culture and life.

For more detailed information about the program, please visit the Special Programs and Courses pages. To apply, please visit the How to Apply page.

Are you currently attending a university in your home country?

Some English Language Institute (ELI) students take a break for 1-2 semesters from studying at a university in their home country.  They know learning English in the United States will improve their chances of getting a good job once they graduate and that employers are looking for the intercultural skills that are developed by international experience.

For more detailed information about the program, please visit the Special Programs and Courses pages. To apply, please visit the How to Apply page.

Do you plan to attend graduate school in the United States?

Some English Language Institute (ELI) students study in the program after having completed a Bachelors degree in their home country. The ELI's academic English, TOEFL preparation, and GRE preparation classes will help prepare students for graduate school.  Former ELI students have continued their studies at Indiana University School of Law, George Washington University Law School, Peabody Conservatory, New England Conservatory of Music, George Mason University School of Law, George Mason University, University of Baltimore, Hood CollegeTheological College at Catholic University, City University of New York School of Law and many others.

For more detailed information about the program, please visit the Special Programs and Courses pages. To apply, please visit the How to Apply page.

Are you established in your career and seek further language training to increase your business opportunities?

Professionals of all ages enroll in the English Language Institute (ELI) because of its high-quality, intensive program.  Many business-specialized classes are offered, such as English for Business Communication, Advanced Pronunciation Training, and Professional Writing.  All students who successfully complete the program receive a Business Professional Certificate.  The ELI program also offers bridge classes where English learners can take classes with American students in a variety of disciplines, so they can develop specific vocabulary in their field.

For more detailed information about the program, please visit the Special Programs and Courses pages. To apply, please visit the How to Apply page.
