Carol Carey

ESL Instructor
Biography
My path to teaching ESOL has been circuitous. My first profession was as a government policy analyst (with several interludes creating and teaching technical classes for colleagues), followed by work as an artist and art teacher. Along the way I studied several languages, traveled extensively and completed certification in high school English. Two years ago I explored the possibility of ESOL and found that my earlier pursuits leant themselves well to this field. It has been my good fortune to become involved with the program at Howard Community College. I enjoy everything about it --- the students and classroom activities; the dedication and high standards of faculty and staff; the breadth of offerings as exemplified by the full-time program offered through the English Language Institute. This new field keeps me very busy. However, I try to keep up as well with my other life which includes leadership of a large and active adult group in my parish, addictive reading, and fun with family and friends.
