Biography
I have taught ESL at HCC since 1997and tutored at the LAC before that. The courses I teach here include ENGL 086, 087, 084, and 085.
I received my BA in Spanish from the University of Maine. I was lucky to spend my junior year in Seville, Spain, living with a wonderful Spanish family who spoke no English whatsoever! After getting married and moving to the DC area, I decided to go for my MA in linguistics at the American University and completed it there. I taught ESL at AU for a bit and also in Ann Arbor, MI. After Michigan, we moved back to Maine, then New York City and finally to Maryland. I spent quite a few years at home with my kids during this period, volunteering at school, tutoring ESL, and teaching an after-school Spanish class. After a few years in MD, I finally ventured out to HCC for a job.
I also work as the Program Assistant for the ESL Department on the credit side of the college. Through this position I have gotten to know many of you. I really enjoy working with ESL students both in class and out.
