Matt Schultz

ELI Advisor
Biography
Hello, I am an ELI Student advisor here at Howard Community College. I have a diverse background work with and teaching about people about different cultures. I studied Spanish in Argentina when I was in college and than after graduating college lived in El Salvador for four months. While was there I studied Salvadoran music, dance and culture with Israel Bojorge of the Salvadoran National Center for the Arts as well as accompanied Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Bishop Medardo Gomez in his visits to communities throughout the countryside. When not traveling I have spent the past several years teaching youth about world cultures, peace and nonviolence through my work with the Kids for Peace Foundation as well as with the Baltimore Presbytery. I enjoy working here at Howard Community College as an ELI advisor because it gives me an opportunity to apply the many lessons learned from my work and travel experience as well as return much of the hospitality that was shown to me when I was living in foreign countries. In my free time I play piano in a jazz trio and work on projects combining music, theatre and peace studies to create a dialogue to better understand issues of conflict and injustice.
