Effective Academic Writing *NEW*
In this class, you will develop the skill of writing coherent, well-developed short answers, the type of answers that are required in almost all college and university classes. You will also practice timed-writing so that you can prepare for in-class writing assignments. Topics will include grammar, organization, and reading comprehension as they relate to effective academic writing. The focus in this class is NOT on essay writing but rather on short answer writing. Tentative travel sites include 1) Washington, D.C.; 2) the Amish country near Lancaster, Pennsylvania; 3) Baltimore; and 4) Harper’s Ferry. Join us for fun and learning! A placement test is required. English Language Teaching *NEW*
Would you like training in order to teach English classes? Or would you like training to become a teacher in your native language or any foreign language? If so, this class will give you some expert, practical, hands-on training in language methodology. This course is intended for advanced speakers of English and will focus on language teaching methods and communicative-based techniques. Participants will learn the foundations of language teaching and will learn how to use modern, effective teaching practices. All students will be asked to observe on-going ESL classes as part of this course and they will learn how to develop effective lessons plans and design appropriate evaluations. The class will be taught by an experienced ESL teacher with a strong academic background in ESL methodology.
