HOME DECORATING

Upholstery 101
Would you like to feel the pleasure of completing your own upholstery project? Upholsterer and instructor Tom Vaughan has been in the business for 30 years and is owner of The Cover-Uph Inc. Upholstery 101 is the first half of a progressive upholstery course showing you the fundamental techniques used by upholsterers. You will assemble a frame, stain the legs, learn how to tack, make a clamp, build a foundation, measure and cut material, and blind stitch. After group demonstrations by Tom, you will pair up with a partner to practice on your own. Please bring a #2 Phillips screwdriver, shears, tape measure, straight edge, and pencils to class. Tom will provide the additional supplies for a fee of approximately $167 to be paid at the first class (includes everything from frame and stuffing to tacks). Class size limited to 10 students. $99**

Interior Decorating
Learn how to plan and design a room in your home. This 8-week course will not only teach you different aspects of interior design, but also help you get started on your room make-over. Together, we will work on creating a design notebook for a room in your home. With this, and the knowledge you will gain, you will be able to decorate your space with confidence. Learn about room arrangements, color, lighting, window treatments, hanging wall art, accessorizing, and much more. Note: Students supply own materials. List provided by instructor at first class. Preparing to Remodel Your Home
Avoid many costly mistakes, save a lot of money, and enjoy the remodeling process! Architect and remodeling expert Jim Molinelli, PhD, teaches and explains the remodeling process from your initial idea through contract negotiation. Jim has over 25 years of residential design and remodeling experience. Topics include homework for homeowners, remodeling project types, budgeting for remodeling, the cost of improving vs. moving, typical project values, preparing a project information packet, types of professional design help, types of remodeling companies, and the critically important how to identify, evaluate and select the RIGHT remodeling company. $79**

Learn guidelines to help you create enjoyable spaces and functional arrangements that make guests and family feel comfortable and at ease. Ms. Fix-It: Secrets of Home Repair/Women
Do you feel helpless when confronted with a home repair? This limited hands-on class teaches you how to fix common household problems, easily and safely. Enjoy the savings and satisfaction of learning tips, tools, and skills for simple jobs around the house. Topics include power tools, carpentry, plumbing, and electricity. Class size limited, so sign up now. $99**

Holiday Floral Design
Work with professional floral designers and create your own festive floral arrangements. Use a variety of fresh cut flowers, greens and holiday accent supplies and learn the basic tips and techniques to design your own centerpieces and wreath. You may enroll in one, two or all three sessions ($40 per session or $95 for all three). A materials fee* of approximately $15-$25 is due the instructor at the beginning of each class for floral supplies. All sessions are held at Bev & Lee Wilhide's Flowers, Inc. 3956 Cooks Ln, Ellicott City. $40**

GARDENING AND LANDSCAPING

Create an Environmentally "Greener" Landscape *NEW!*
Improve and beautify your landscape using the best plants and gardening practices. Learn to lower your maintenance time and have a healthier yard. Create a new lawn or improve an existing one without chemicals. This course will teach you how to plant, mulch, prune, and fertilize like a pro. Discussions will include annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs. Bring your questions! $69**

Residential Landscape Design
Create a master plan using concept drawings. This four week course uses professional tools and techniques to develop a landscape design for your yard. Learn the basic principles of design to create your personal outdoor living space. Bring a survey plat of your property to the first class. $79**

BEER AND WINE APPRECIATION

Beer Appreciation
From ancient Sumatra to Delaware; Old Country to Plymouth Rock; Chicha to Chili Pepper Ale; Fritz Maytag to Michael Jackson; Prohibition to the GABF--learn a brief history of the Nectar of the Gods. Join Nick "The Baltimore Beertrekker" Nichols as you taste a variety of beers from microbrews to imports. Emphasis is on fall beers. Participants must be 21 or older (IDs will be checked.) Please bring a glass (not plastic), a bottle of water, crackers, and paper towels. $55** (includes $15 materials fee*)

Introduction to Wine
Do you enjoy wine but don't feel confident in your knowledge of the subject? Join this class and overcome your insecurities. Discuss wine production, different types of wines, wine terminology, and other useful information. Examine different aromas and decipher wine labels to determine how various wines will taste. Discover varieties of California wines, as well as regional wines from France, Italy, and Germany. The class includes comprehensive tasting. Participants must be 21 or older. IDs will be checked. Do not wear perfume or cologne. Bring 4 glasses (not plastic), bottled water, salt-free crackers and napkins to class. $99** (includes $20 materials fee*)
