SENIOR ADULT SUMMER INSTITUTE (SASI)
Learn for the love of learning with no tests or term papers! Experience college life for four days and join others for lunch on campus. Each day features sessions on arts and humanities topics such as art appreciation, history, music, or philosophy. This event is held annually in late May or early June on the Howard Community College campus. Registration packets are available after April 1 from Howard County Recreation & Parks. Register for one day or receive a discount when you register for all four days. Call 410-313-7279 for registration information.
TUITION WAIVERS FOR SENIORS
The Board of Trustees of Howard Community College has approved a free tuition program for senior citizens and persons with disabilities residing in Howard County and enrolling in credit and noncredit classes in which space is available. This program enables all people 60 years of age and older or with a disability as defined by the Social Security or Railroad Retirement Acts to pursue an associate of arts degree or a certificate of proficiency, participate in college activities, and enroll in noncredit courses. Waiver applies only to tuition, not to fees. All noncredit courses carry a $40 registration fee. Some also require a materials, lab, or supplies fee; if so, it will be stated in the course description. To prove eligibility, persons who are on disability retirement must submit a special Certificate Form for Tuition Waivers (form available in the Office of Admissions and must be approved at a Social Security office) with their registration.
If you qualify for the waiver, you pay only the fees, if any, listed in the course description, plus a $40-per-course registration fee.
Howard County's premier event for seniors and their families and caregivers, the Expo is sponsored by the Howard County Office On Aging and takes place at Howard Community College. It is held annually the third Friday of October at Wilde Lake High School from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and HCC runs an exhibit booth there.
