Prepare for Certification in HR Management.

Whether you're just starting out in the HR field or have a couple of years under your belt, this course will help you enhance your professional expertise and prepare for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification exam.

TOPICS COVERED

Strategic Management
The role of HR in organizations, strategic planning, external environment, organizational structure/internal HR partners, measuring HR effectiveness, ethical issues, the legislative environment.

Workforce Planning and Employment
Key legislation affecting employee rights, privacy and consumer protection, EEO/Affirmative Action, gender discrimination and harassment, organizational staffing, job analysis and documentation, recruitment, selection, employment practices, organizational exit, employee records management.

Human Resource Development
HRD assessment, design, development, implementation and evaluation, key legislation, adult learning and motivation, career development, developing leaders, organizational development, performance management.

Compensation and Benefits
Key legislation, total compensation, pay administration, compensation systems, overview of benefit programs, government-mandated benefits, voluntary benefits, compensation and benefits for international employees, evaluating total compensation and communicating it to employees.

Employee and Labor Relations
Key legislation; employee relations; employee involvement strategies; work rules in union and nonunion environments; communication of laws, regulations, and organizational policies; discipline and resolution of formal complaints, union organizing, unfair labor practices, collective bargaining, strikes and secondary boycotts, public-sector labor relations, international employee and labor relations.

Occupational health, safety, and security; key legislation.

INSTRUCTOR
Todd Allen, SPHR, CEBS, is director of human resources for Howard Community College and has over 18 years of related experience as a human resource leader, consultant, and trainer in the public and private sectors.  He holds a master of science for human resource management, has certification as a senior professional in human resource management from the Society for Human Resource Management, is certified as an employee benefits specialist from the Wharton School of Business, and has completed a doctoral fellows program in community college leadership with Morgan State University.

Todd Allen has taught human resources courses and served in numerous volunteer roles supporting the HR profession, including two years as president of the Howard County HR Society and two years as president of the Greater Baltimore Washington CUPA-HR chapter.  Todd earned national recognition for his HR work, including the 2004 SunGard SCT Technology Award.

$1,025. Iincludes a nonrefundable $425 materials fee.  (Waiver students pay materials fee and a $30 registration fee.)
