Build and enhance your child care career with HCC's Division of Continuing Education & Workforce Development noncredit courses and programs.

New Maryland State Requirements for Child Care Center Staff
The child care certification courses offered at Hickory Ridge have been revised and updated, with added topics to address new state requirements effective July 1, 2008. Call 410-772-4049 for new MSDE Training Requirements flyer.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CHILD CARE TRAINING

Funds from the HCC Educational Foundation, Inc., may be available to provide scholarships for credit and noncredit child care training. The grant program, funded by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by Howard County Office of Housing and Community Development, provides scholarships and coursework to eligible Howard County residents. Courses targeted for scholarships include the 90-hour Child Care Certification, the 45-hour Infant/Toddler program, and the 90-hour School-Age program offered in credit and noncredit training options. Other options available for scholarships include noncredit 24-hour Family Child Care Provider certification, CDA prep, MMSR, and selected early childhood education credit courses beyond certification requirements. Howard County residents may apply for a variety of options and formats according to their individual career goals. Scholarships apply only to courses held at HCC's Hickory Ridge Building/main campus location and cosponsored classes at Howard County Child Care Resource Center. Maryland Scholarships for Child Care Certification
Funds for scholarships may be available from the Maryland State Department of Education, Early Childhood Development, Office of Child Care for credit and noncredit child care training, to eligible Maryland residents who are current or potential child care providers. The funds are for coursework and textbooks fo rthe 90-hour Child Care Certification and the 45-hour Infant/Toddler program for senior staff, offered in credit and noncredit options. Maryland Child Care Credentialing Program

The Maryland Child Care Credentialing Program is a voluntary program that recognizes child care providers who go beyond the requirements of State licensing and registration regulations. The Maryland Department of Human Resources Child Care Administration has established six credential levels, each one recognizing a child care provider's achievement for a specified number of clock hours, experience, and professional activities. Training is offered in six content areas:

C-Curriculum
D-Child Development
H-Health, Safety, and Nutrition
L-Community
P-Professionalism
S-Special Needs

In order to participate in the program, you must submit a completed application and all required documentation to the Maryland State Department of Education, Office of Credentialing.
