"The benefits of instruction in Command Spanish are certainly due to the content of the curriculum but most especially to the proficiency of the instructor, Marcela Phillips. All participants believe that the course was more than just the curriculum because Mrs. Phillips provided them with insight into the culture as they learned important ‘tidbits’ about the Hispanic culture. We feel we now have a vital connection to our Hispanic students, and they are excited seeing their teachers as students. Additionally, it has helped improve both communication and rapport with our students and their parents.
' Weekly lessons were practical, interactive (loved the use of music), and fun. The pace of the lessons was brisk without being overwhelming. The technique of using a say/repeat pattern for phrases was also very effective. Mrs. Phillips incorporated games, personal stories and skits to keep us motivated.
The Command Spanish curriculum is teacher-centered and provides work-specific phrases. The structure of the materials with phonetic spellings as well as the inclusion of the CD is also useful. With little exception the content is also applicable to community/neighborhood interaction."

“The training has not only met but exceeded my expectations! I received very good feedback from attendees. Bob [the instructor] was wonderful and kept the class's attention and involvement. I spent much of the time scanning the room and with only very few exceptions people really seemed interested. . . . Bob mentioned in passing that HCC does a class in team building also and we may want to talk next spring.”

"I have been getting 'FABULOUS' feedback on the Health Assessment Workshop. The nurses who attended, thought that the instructors did a wonderful job. They found the workshop to be extremely helpful to their functioning. This is what I want more of. Relevant, practical workshops that support DHMH nurses to feel more comfortable about their roles and functions. Bravo to you and your staff for another excellent job!!! Thank you."

"Thank you so much for all your help in setting up trainings for our programs. I know that dates change and there is plenty of rescheduling going on, but you folks always meet it with a smile and helpful hints. Your activities to provide education credits to our various healthcare providers are extremely helpful. That is a lot of paperwork! Also, you have set up a good organizational packet to help the conference planner (me) think about speakers and objectives of the meeting. I feel this makes the meeting more cohesive.
Thank you for all your help!"
