Testimonials

Praise From Our Students and Parents

"HCC Kids On Campus is my favorite summer camp. It offers fun courses geared for kids of all ages. This is our fifth year at HCC--a testament to the staff which keeps the curriculum fun and interesting. At HCC, young kids feel like real students with courses that continually "hit the mark." Thanks HCC!"
--Becky Livingston, parent, 2007

"This is a wonderful program which offers middle schoolers a selection of fun and educational courses. The option of going for only a half-day allows plenty of down time without letting the summer be wasted. The jr. medic class offered dissection and CPR certification, which my son would not have had a chance to do in school."
--Lori Dove, parent, 2007

"My daughter is VERY MUCH enjoying the Young Writer’s World camp and the teacher is extraordinary!"
--Candace Dodson Reed, parent, 2007

"I have taken six classes at HCC and my most favorite one would probably have to be The Stock Market Game."
—Adam Jacobs, age 10

"I liked the Kids On Campus because the teachers were nice and you got to do activities.  I attended Who Done It?  I also did Art In Hand where I did origami.  In Who Done It? the class had to interrogate the workers to see if they had the mascot of the room.  I really enjoyed it!"
—Mackenzie Robbins, age 10

"This is the most incredible program available for children that I have encountered.  The classes are fun, structured and truly spark the imagination of the children involved.  You can tell the teachers are quality educators who are passionate about their classes.  Great job HCC!"
—Christy Carl, parent

Happy kids"My son (8 years old) enjoyed all six classes he took this summer, especially the Career Engineer, Stock Market, and Who Done It?  The Cartooning teacher is nice and friendly.  The kids seem to enjoy the class.  Thank you for providing the wonderful classes to the kids.  We'll be back with more of his friends next summer."
—Eric Qiu's mother

"Hi Sara [KOC director],
I spoke with you on the phone this morning, but I wanted to take a minute to reiterate what I said in a way that will enable you to share my comments with your staff.

As you know, Adam has been attending Kids on Campus summer programs since he was seven or eight years old (he's now 15).  Since he started coming, I have been thoroughly impressed with the way you operate.  I have noticed that you make process improvements every year, and that the variety of subjects offered also grows from year to year.  I have never had a concern about Adam's safety while he was at Kids on Campus, even when he was much younger than he is now.'

When he called me on Monday to tell me that he was outside at lunch because I hadn't signed him up for the supervised lunchtime, he told me that he wasn't allowed in the room because we hadn't registered for the service.  He said he was free to do whatever he wanted.  I admit to being surprised by his call—I had completely forgotten to sign him up for lunchtime, and my surprise was that I hadn't gotten a call from your office telling me that he needed to be under supervision somewhere.  At the same time, I knew he was fine so I wasn't worried.  He's been to soccer camps at HCC, and some of his Kids on Campus classes have been in the other buildings, so he feels comfortable on the campus.  He said he wanted to go over to the cafeteria for lunch on Tuesday, and we said that was OK.  We sent him to class that day with money and figured, based on Monday's happenings, that was fine.  After Tuesday's class, he told me about the permission slip, which I figured was just for us to sign saying it was OK that he goes to another building.'

I was so impressed when I read the letter that accompanied the slip that I had to call you to let you know.  As I said above, I didn't think about lunchtime at all when I registered him for the PSAT class.  I read the policy statement that you referenced (and that I obviously missed when we registered him!), which, of course, is quite reasonable given that you are responsible for the kids.  At the same time, by the time they hit high school, they need to be given some leeway and responsibility.  What impressed me the most is that you didn't say "sorry, they have to stay here," or "sorry, if they leave they can't come back."  You took the time to think it through and come up with a win-win situation, and that illustrated why your program is such a wonderful one.  Your letter showed that you understand that the varying age groups under your care have different needs, and that those needs matter to you.  You came up with an easy fix to the issue—the parents are informed, the kids have some freedom, and you are covered.'

As I said on the phone, this might be Adam's last year at Kids on Campus.'

We'll see what is offered next year, but he'll be driving by then, and my guess is that he'll have a job somewhere.  I'm glad that the lunch thing happened because it gave me the opportunity to thank you so much for the years of great classes and great care.  It's been a pleasure to turn Adam over to you guys every summer!  Please share this note with your staff and your management—it's important that everyone gets to see how impressed I have been with your program.'
Many thanks -
Sharon Schwemin"
