Welcome to the ride of your life! If you've never ridden a motorcycle, have limited riding experience, haven't ridden in a long time, or if you want the course that provides the most information about safety and road skills, this course is for you.  When you successfully complete this course, you meet the requirements for earning a Maryland (Class "M") Motorcycle License.

The course is the least expensive way to find out if motorcycling is for you. Learn about safe riding, choosing a motorcycle and gear, riding skills, defensive riding strategies, and how to handle various riding situations.  Ample riding time allows practice controlling the clutch/throttle, stopping, turning, shifting, and avoiding crashes.

Riding is not for everyone and some participants will not successfully complete the course.  MVA rules require that students who do not achieve minimum performance standards cannot continue. There are no refunds. Course content is approved by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) and meets or exceeds Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) standards. Instructors are MVA and MSF certified.

After you’ve registered, preview the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Basic Rider Course Handbook online before your course begins. If you want to pick up a paper copy in advance, call 443-518-4808, or, you may print the first two chapters here. 

To receive the MVA Motorcycle Safety Program course completion certificate, you must attend all class sessions and pass written and riding evaluations.  Classes are held rain or shine.  Motorcycles are provided. At registration, you will be asked to provide your driver's license number. You must also sign waivers of liability.  (Parents or guardians of registered students under age 18 will be required to sign waiver forms.)   Please read the MVA Licensing Rules before you register.  See the "Required Safety Gear and Motorcycles" policy for required equipment.  The course costs $345 (includes $35 fee collected by the MVA).
